Wajima

Typhoon #18 brought heavy rain and high wind today, but we boarded our bus and headed off to Wajima, the laquerware town near the north end of the Noto Peninsula.  The weather forced us to go to Plan B, which was to visit the very interesting Kiriko Lantern Museum instead.  After some shopping, we tried our hands at decorating laquerware chopsticks using a traditional craft technique. By the time we were done with lunch at Akira Kitchen (delicious!) the worst of the weather had blown through. Our trip back down the peninsula took as along a coastline the sorta-kinda resembles Big Sur.  We stopped at a scenic lookout area where we were able to get out and stretch our legs for an hour.  The group activities for the day ended with a stop at Nanao's biggest department store for shopping at the 100 Yen Store.

You might wonder why all the students are doing push-ups...well, some trash was left on the bus...
