2016 Junior Wings Welcome Party!

Our Partners have finally arrived! We set up the JACL this morning, then drove to Monterey Airport to meet our partners. We headed back to JACL for the welcome party and got to know each other a little bit better. Fun was had and friendships were formed! Here's to an amazing week!

Welcome Weekend Schedule

Saturday

• 9:00AM:  Meet at JACL Hall (424 Adams St. in Monterey) to decorate hall, receive t-shirts and name cards
• 9:45AM: Drive to Monterey Airport
• 10:25AM: Greet flight, meet partners
• 10:45AM: Pick up luggage, return to JACL Hall
• 11:00AM: Welcome Party
• 12:45PM: Clean up
• 1:00PM: Take partner home

Sunday

• 9:00AM:  Meet at Monterey Bay Kayaks
• 10:00AM: Begin kayak tour
• 12:00PM: End kayak tour
• 6:00PM Beach party (see email thread for details)

Nanao JWs have arrived in LA!

Your partners are almost here!  I received word that the Nanao JW group has arrived in LA safely.  They are tired, of course, but excited to be there.  They will be spending ALL day at Disneyland today.  Then they'll be up bright and early Saturday to make their way to Monterey and to us!

Tea Ceremony Details

Tomorrow should prove to be a fun experience!

Please arrive at my home by 12:45.  We must leave for the tea house in Pebble Beach no later than 1:00.

Our home is at the intersection of Alameda Ave and Colton Street.  We are on the downhill side of Alameda.

The tea ceremony is a formal, quiet, non-flashy, respectful event.  So please dress accordingly.  Dress nicely, but comfortably as you will be sitting on the floor. I do not recommend tight pants or jeans; you may become uncomfortable.  Also, please do not wear tights or shorts; they are too informal.  For those with long hair, please tie it back so it doesn't fall in your face or tea when you bow!  Remove jangly necklaces and earrings for the same reason.  If you can, please also remove rings, particularly large, showy ones, and any that might scratch or damage the tea bowls.  Please do not wear any perfume or strong-scented deodorant.

Please wear clean, white socks with no holes.  Again, this is a respectful event and everyone WILL see the bottoms of your socks when you sit down.

Last, in spite of all of the above, do not be nervous or afraid because, ultimately, we're are just going to have a cup of tea and a sweet snack.  The tea teacher is very kind, gentle, and generous.

We will be a very large group with 11 students and 8 family members (plus me) making 20, the most we have ever had.
